In 1965, St. Matthew’s undertook a major expansion. Mott Schmidt, a St. Matthew’s parishioner, was the architect for the expansion which added pews with room for 60 more parishioners and pushed the altar and chapel back some 25 feet. The door, which had been added in 1960, was no longer needed as a door and reverted to being used only as a window into an enlarged pew.
