This website was created by Mott Schmidt enthusiasts with the goal of making Mott Schmidt’s work more accessible to
architects, researchers, students, classical architecture aficionados and the general public. We aim to provide a valuable resource for all who appreciate the
refined elegance and grace of Mott Schmidt's work.
We encourage owners of Mott Schmidt buildings to contribute
current or historical photographs of their homes and residences for inclusion
in the photo galleries. Any information, clarifications or
documentation on specific buildings will also be considered for publication on
the site.
This website also includes the full text of The
Architecture of Mott B. Schmidt, Mark Alan Hewitt’s definitive book on Mott
Schmidt. Published in 1991, with a forward by Robert A.M. Stern, The
Architecture of Mott B. Schmidt is out of print and we are very
appreciative to the author for granting permission to make the book’s content
available online. Mark has also generously contributed many of his own
photographs of Mott Schmidt’s architecture for inclusion in the photo
galleries.
We also wish to acknowledge the cooperation of the Avery
Architectural Archives at Columbia University and thank them for making
available a great many of the historical photographs displayed on the site.
